Elizabeth Rose came to
Skydive Spain to do a Tandem jump. Read her account
from her website here:
Myself, Geoff, Dean and Lou - one car straining at
the bit carrying a whole load of hyperactivity and
testosterone from La Linea to Sevilla so that we
could throw ourselves out of "a perfectly good
aeroplane" (This happened as a result of the boys
procrastinating when drunk - ha ha! happy Christmas!
we're always told to be careful what we wish for . .
)
The weather was fantastic and we were all in high
spirits as we listened to instructions and watched a
video of what to expect - taking "before" shots on
the camcorder (but thats another story). Rather
selfishly (sorry guys and gal) i went first -
looking like the bride of chucky in my wee
blue/yellow jumpsuit, I listened rather intently to
the instructions - knowing full well i was going to
forget it all once in the air, screaming like a girl
. . .
Then up and away in a tiny blue plane - the
atmosphere was tense as it was the first jump of the
day and the other guys on board were somewhat
trembling . . . excitement or fear, i'm not sure!!!
as we hit 15000 feet, the door opens. B****ks,
what's all that about. Arms crossed in a dead mans
pose (how apt!!!) i'm scooched along the bench and
then being hung out of the door! giggling with
terror, i smile for the camera, gulp, put my head
back and then
WA-HEY!!!! freefalling for a whole minute at 120mph,
from 15000ft attached to guy who thinks he can swim
up here and spins you around for fun?! Bloody
marvellous!!!!
The freefall was like nothing else i've ever
experienced - I felt my chest hurt and imagined i
couldnt breathe for about 2 seconds - but it was a
feeling of of pure elation, freedom, joy. The fact
that the ground is rushing towards you is not even a
factor in your mind - its crazy! believe it or not -
you dont even notice!!!!
The parachute opens and up and away we go: flung
straight back in the air. The descent is so relaxing
- you're moving fast and the freefall seems to last
longer - probably due to the adreneline. Steering
the parachute (if thats what you call it!!!) is
harder than you expect, but hey! i've just fallen
from 15ooo feet - i can do anything!!!!
I was rather proud of my landing - feet up and
coming in at top speed. perfect. not my hair though.
Disaster! i felt very calm but a bit light headed -
i felt bloody marvellous. Geoff caught it all on
camera brilliantly (well, the commentary anyway: "it
just looks black" - the lens cap was on!!!! ha ha
x). A few moments of babbling inanely to the guys
watching me land and then i felt blissed out for a
good few hours.
An experience of a lifetime . . . and i've got the
dvd to prove it !!!!! do it yourself if you don' t
believe me: We used www.skydivespain.com and they
were fantastic - a big thank you to them. |
